In the fall, apple picking is a favorite activity in Shenandoah Valley. Some recommendations below: 

Hartland Orchard
Markham, VA

  • A very popular spot right off I-66, convenient and highly visible.

  • Known for fall pick-your-own apples, plus treats like cider, donuts, pies, and kettle corn. 

  • Recommended by locals.

Stribling Orchard
Markham, VA

  • Historic mountainside orchard with vineyards, breathtaking views, snack shack, harvest market, and seasonal baked goods. 

  • Reddit mentions: “Stribling orchard out on 66 has great apple picking (tons of varieties) and their apple donuts (and other baked goods) are really tasty.”

Marker-Miller Orchards
Winchester, VA

  • Large family farm (325 acres of apples) with pick-your-own starting in early August into early November.

  • Offers apple cider donuts, bakery, market, playground, and more family attractions.

The Apple House
Linden, VA

  • Located directly in Linden on John Marshall Hwy—not a traditional orchard, but you can pick apples onsite in season.

  • Small family farm offering late-August through October apple picking starting with Honeycrisp.

  • Also grow other fruits, vegetables, and pasture-raised beef.
